Sections People Waste Time On
- Searching the whole handbook because the exam feels broad, instead of naming the topic lane first.
- Using vague search terms like "force," "energy," or "flow" before trying "moment," "first law," "Darcy," or "Reynolds."
- Jumping into thermo tables or fluids charts before identifying the known properties and units.
- Over-studying small specialty sections before the fluids, mechanics, math, economics, and thermo pages feel familiar.
First-Week Lookup Drill
- Time yourself finding the fluid mechanics relations. They carry the largest share of questions on this exam.
- Locate the electricity and magnetism section twice: once by browsing, once by searching a specific term. Candidates from non-electrical backgrounds lose the most time here.
- Find the materials science property tables. They are shared across disciplines and easy to confuse with the mechanics-of-materials pages.
- Search with short terms from this guide, such as "Electricity, Power, and Magnetism", "Electricity", "Calculus", "Diagram", "Materials Science", "Integral". Shared sections are indexed by their own vocabulary, so search the physical quantity rather than your discipline name for it.
- For a problem drawing on two shared sections, locate both ranges before solving. Bouncing between them mid-calculation is where this exam costs people time.
